Traveling with a campervan is the best way to explore Crete! If you are looking for secluded beaches, discover the untouched south part of Crete and find one just for you. Pick some of the best hikes around Europe and witness the wild canyons of Crete! Travel back in time and visit the ruins of the oldest civilization in Europe around the island. Drive through the mountains of Crete to explore the traditional villages and the famous local cuisine. At the end of the day go for snorkeling in the crystal clear waters. Crete is the largest Greek island and the fifth largest in the Mediterranean Sea, having an area of 8,336 km2 with more than 300 beaches!

 

Due to its size, it is better to plan your trip before coming in Crete in order to decide which places to visit. To get a good taste of all over Crete, a two weeks minimum stay is required. If you do not have that much time, you can choose between West or East Crete.

 

Upon your arrival we can plan together your trip according to your needs, find places to visit, places to camp overnight and share with you the hidden gems of our island, as our small team of local adventure seekers is specialized in travel planing. Our passion is to travel and discover new corners in the place that we love the most, Crete!

West Crete

 

Where many of the island’s highlights are located! West is definitely a place to visit!

  • The old town of Chania is something to remember, get lost in the picturesque streets and try the local cuisine.

  • Seitan Port, looking like more heavenly than devilish!

  • Balos Lagoon, for some the best beach in Crete. Although the boats and the crowds may affect the vibes of the place. Go early to avoid crowds. You can drive there only on a 4x4 as the 20km dirt road is in a bad condition, alternatively you can take a boat trip from Kissamos to Balos.

  • Falasarna beach, the best sunset on the island.

  • Elafonisi beach. For sure one of the best places to visit around Crete! After the crowds leave, you have the place just for you. Do not miss Kedrodasos beach, just 1hour hike east of Elafonisi. You can also drive to Kedrodasos but only with a 4x4.

  • Sougia village, your base to start some of the best hikes on the island. Agia Eirini gorge and of course the biggest gorge in Europe, Samaria: a must do 5-hour hike starting from 1230m altitude to the see level!

  • Chora Sfakion and Anopoli, visit one of the most traditional places in Crete, swim in the crystal clear water of Ilingas beach and taste the local cuisine to its finest at Anopoli village watching the summit of the White Mountains mountain range.

  • Spili village right in the heart of Rethimno prefecture for a small stop before heading to the amazing beaches of Preveli and Triopetra.

  • Arkadi monastery

  • Lake Kournas, paddle around the peaceful lake

 

East Crete

 

Home of the Minoan civilization and the wild Asterousia mountain range, a place to visit for adventure seekers !

 

  • Knossos Palace, visit the ruins of the Minoan civilization and travel back in time.

  • Festos Palace, admire the famous disk of Festos.

  • Psiloritis mountain, visit Anogia for some of the best food of Crete. Sfendoni Cave is a must if you are in the area.

  • Matala, the hippie village. Here is all about relaxing! Visit the Red beach and don't miss the summer music festival here!

  • Asterousia mountain range, drive only with a 4x4. Explore the remote villages at Asterousia foothills, swim in the most remote places of Crete and hike the wild gorges!

  • Xerokampos beach, natural clay spa on the beach.

  • Kato Zakros, visit the archaeological site, hike the gorge of the dead and swim at the beautiful crystal clear waters.

  • Kouremenos beach, home for campervan lovers! Windsurfing here is a must, good vibes and relaxing atmosphere.

  • Vai beach, it all started from the pirates! A beautiful palm tree beach to relax!

  • Hike Richtis gorge and swim under the waterfall!

  • Lastihti Plateau, visit the cave where Zeus was born, the king of gods in ancient Greek religion! Drive around the beautiful plateau and visit the traditional villages.

 

 

Campervan routes

 

Even with the big campervans you can drive almost everywhere. Crete is very well singed to help you navigate around. If you would like to visit some of the cities in Crete, it would be better to park the campervan outside the center in order to avoid small and narrow streets. Upon your campervan’s pick up, our team will give you tips and plan with you the route around the island.

 

4x4 routes

 

Renting a 4x4 is giving you the freedom of visiting remote places on the south part of the island. The south part of Heraklion is one the most secluded places that you can explore. Hike wild gorges, climb to the summit of Asterousia mountain range, discover the wild flora and fauna and try to spot one of the last eagles in Europe, visit old Monasteries and spend a night with monks.
